Mobile upgrades act like an elixir for people like me, who do not wish to change the service provider. And those who wish to retain the same number, find mobile upgrades to be of great help. Unfortunately, not many people in UK are aware of the benefits that this facility brings along. They merely go for it for the aforementioned reasons.
Nevertheless, I thought of conducting a small telephonic survey on my own to find out what is it in actual that makes people go gaga over mobile upgrades. Since there was no one to assist me in this endeavor, I decided to opt for a small sample size and went ahead with merely 100 people. Nonetheless, these are the findings, accompanied by the relevant information:
When asked if number retention is one of the major factors that persuades them to go for this facility, 75% of the respondents gave an affirmative reply. It is however noteworthy that this response might be indicative but it does hold true on the macro front as well. The reason for this is pretty simple. After the expiration of the existing contract, if the user decides to enter into a new contract with the service provider, his/her mobile phone number would change.
This would invite trouble for he/she would have to distribute the new number among his friends and family, which could turn out to be chaotic task, if the list of known people is pretty long. And if the user decides to change the provider, he/she might be able to retain the same number by making the use of number portability, but in this case, he/she would end up loosing a trusted provider. Keeping this in mind, most of the users like to opt for upgrading.
The second question was related to loyalty. The verbatim outlay of this question was somewhat like “ Does your rapport with the current carrier (O2, Orange, Vodafone, Three, T-Mobile etc.) affect your decision?†Lo and behold, 80% of the respondents said yes. Nevertheless, since this facility requires you to stick to the service provider, whose services you are currently availing, you should carefully weigh the pros and cons of renewing your contract. But if you do go ahead, you would be rewarded like anything. Loyalty always pays off, doesn’t it?
Next in the line was a question related to the stimuli involved. I was taken aback when I found out that 60% of the strata being surveyed was not aware of the fact that such deals are accompanied by some of the most astounding free gifts. Nevertheless, for those who aren’t aware, this facility does bring along a pile up of incentives. First and foremost, most of these offers provide you with free texts and minutes. Hold your breath for that’s not all. You can also lay your hands on Xbox 360, Sony PSP GO and similar gaming consoles. Too good to be true? Meet me, the beneficiary, who got hold of a Sony PS3 Slim 120GB, upon availing one of the deals available online. On a serious note, such offers can provide you with several other mind-boggling allurements subsuming cash back, half/free line rental and laptops, among others.
Upon being asked if they knew they eligibility criteria that needs to be catered to in order to avail this facility, 57% of the respondents gave a positive reply, while the remaining 43% were not sure about it. Many of them were caught unaware. Nevertheless, in order to avail a mobile phone upgrade deal, one has to be a contract phone user in the first place. Secondly, a minimum time span of 6 months must have passed by, before you decide to go ahead and opt for any such offer.
All said and done, mobile upgrades are here to stay for they encapsulate in themselves, an avalanche of benefits, waiting to be explored.
